The SD Association, a global alliance of more than one thousand companies involved in the Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, has announced the new standard for this type of cards: SDXC. This new type, as an evolution of SDHC, will be able to have capacities up to.... 2 TB (2'000 GB!) and 300 MB/s of speed.
The new standard should be completed around March.

50 years have passed since Canon introduced its first reflex camera. A Canon USA press says that so far Canon has sold 53 million cameras.
The very first Canon camera was Canonflex, back to far May 1959.

If you read the numerous forums existing around in the Web, you see that one of the most frequent reason of complain is focusing problems.
Quite often there are user errors or user not full knowledge of this not-easy topic, like requesting objects being outside the Depth of Field to be in focus.

Canon has published a response to concerns expressed by customers of Canon EOS 5D Mark II for a couple of problems:
- black dots appearing on very contrasty edges like lights in the night,
- banding when shooting with sRAW1 format.
On both, Canon declares that the issues do exist and that they are working for a firmware fix/workaround. News should arrive soon.

As anticipated beginning of last week, yesterday Adobe released version 2.2 of Lightroom.
No new addition with respect to expected changes:
- added support for additional cameras (Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon PowerShot G10, Panasonic DMC-G1/DMC-FX150/DMC-FZ28/DMC-LX3, Leica D-LUX 4)
- camera profiles embedded (see the Camera Calibration panel)
- quite a number of bug/performance fixes, especially for tools in the Develop view.

Also the three biggest players in the digital photography area, Canon, Nikon and Adobe, are affected by the global economic crisis.
They all announced reductions to their workforces to cope with less demand.
Probably a "costs diet" to many firms was due, but this crisis is really frightening. Hopefully, a new expansion time will follow.
