During the famous yearly fair Photokina held in Germany a lot of new products have been announced.
We are listing hereafter all the most interesting announcements that have been done during this event: the new cameras including Zeiss and Panasonic mirrorless models (September 2018 is the month of the mirrorless rush started with Canon and Nikon!), a lot of new lenses from many vendors and some photo software updates.
Particularly interesting the announcement from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma to be working together around the Leica mount - a "L-mount" alliance.
Let's see the list of the new products.
New cameras
- first Zeiss full frame camera ZX1 with fixed 35mm F2 lens, a 4.3-inch multitouch display, a 512 GB SSD disk instead of a memory card and... a version of the software Adobe Lightroom built into the camera....!
- new Panasonic full frame cameras Lumix S1 and Lumix S1R with Panasonic / Leica / Sigma L-mount partnership, 24 megapixel in S1 and 47 megapixels in S1R. Both with image stabilization, 4k/60p video and double card slot (which the new Nikon and Canon mirrorless lack).
- Fujifilm has said it is developing a 100MP GFX medium format camera that will include both phase detection autofocus, in-body image stabilization and 4K video. Price will be around $10,000..
- Leica has announced the S3 medium-format camera – an S2 successor with a 64MP sensor and 4K video.
- Fujifilm has announced the GFX 50R, a rangefinder-styled version of the GFX 50S medium-format camera, quite cheaper and lighter/smaller.
New lenses
- new Zeiss Batis 40mm f2 for Sony full frame;
- new Tokina Opera 50 mm f1.4;
- second generation Tamron 15-30mm F2.8;
- Panasonic is developing a 10-25mm F1.7 lens for Micro Four Thirds;
- 5 new Sigma lenses: Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN (Sony E and MFT mounts), Sigma 28mm F1.4 DG HSM (Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony full frame), Sigma 40mm F1.4 DG HSM (Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Sony full frame), Sigma 70-200 F2.8 DG OS HSM (Canon, Nikon and Sigma full frame) and a 10x zoom the Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM (Canon, Nikon and Sigma full frame);
- 3 new lenses for medium format Hasselblad: XCD 80mm F1.9 (fastest Hasselblad lens so far), XCD 65mm F2.8 and XCD 135mm F2.8;
- three new medium format lenses from Fujifilm for G-mount: 100-200mm F5.6, 45-100mm F4 and the compact 50mm F3.5. Price and availability not announced.
- 12 new lenses from Venus optics: Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT, Laowa 12mm f/1.8 MFT, Laowa 9mm f/2.8 Zero-D MFT, Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 FE Zoom, Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO, Laowa 17mm f/4 GFX Zero-D, Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye MFT plus 4 cine lenses for video and 1 for DIJ drone.
- new Voigtländer prime: Nokton 50mm F1.2 Asph.
- Reflex (an European manufacturer) announced the first of it’s three full frame manual focusing lenses for Sony full-frame, the 40mm f/1.8 while the 75mm and 24mm lenses will follow.

Software updates
- Capture One 11.3 with Fuji cameras RAW support, including tethering. There is also a new Fuji non-pro version of Capture One for Fuji cameras.
- ON1 2019 version with an easier migration from Adobe Lightroom, new tools for layers, focus stacking and other new features.
- Skylum has announced that Luminar will get the Libraries module (photo organizer) by the end of the year - it was promised in 2017 to be released this year.
