It is sharp, autofocuses over the entire frame, focuses silently and essentially instantly on my Sony A9, focuses super-close, operates its diaphragm silently and covers every focal length I need. While I can spend more on the heavier and much more expensive 24-70/2.8 GM and 70-200/2.8 GM, the pictures are the same 95% of the time and this 24-240mm is much easier and much more fun to carry all day - and this 24~240mm has 20% more telephoto range. - DxO Mark

[Tested on 42 MP camera] Sharpness: 15 MP, transmission: 6 TStop, distorsion: 0.9%, vignetting: -0.9 EV, chromatic aberration: 14 µm. It is not the strongest optically and ranks in the lower half of our lens database. That said, the image quality delivered by the FE 24-240mm is good for a superzoom. The FE 24-240mm’s performance is also better at the wider focal lengths between 24-50mm. - ePHOTOzine
7/10
This superzoom lens adds a convenient zoom option to Sony's burgeoning range of equipment for their full frame mirrorless cameras. The lens is well built, handles well and the addition of dust and moisture resistance is a welcome feature, as it the effective optical stabilisation. Overall, it is a decent superzoom lens delivering excellent levels of sharpness in the centre of the frame. - Amateur Photographer

It has the quality of a good kit lens, but with a focal length that can’t be equalled without a significant financial, and backbreaking, investment in extra glass. Those who demand the best image quality already know the downside to travel-zoom lenses, and this Sony 24-240mm optic certainly won’t be for them, but as a travel companion I think this will form a good partnership, especially with the Alpha 7 II and its advanced image stabilisation system.
