Zeiss information and a brief history
Carl Zeiss AG, branded as ZEISS, is a German company founded in Jena (Germany) in the old 1846 by Carl Zeiss to produce optical elements, initially for microscopes and then expanding its business into several divisions focused on camera lenses, cameras, medical devices, semiconductors, lenses for eyeglasses, systems for industrial quality and research. It is present in tens of countries in the world and it is one of the oldest optics manufacturers.
In 1973 it made a licensing agreement with the Japanese Yashica for Contax cameras that last until 2005.
Zeiss sells licences to produce lenses with its design or technology by other manufacturers, like Voigtländer, Hasselblad, Sony, Rollei, Yashica, Logitech, Alpa.
