Leica information and a brief history
The name Leica comes from the first part of family name of its founder, Ernst Leitz, and first two letters of word "camera" (it's written in German as in English). Initially it produced microscopes, binoculars and then prototypes of cameras. Leica built the first camera with 35mm film.
In 2016 Leica made and agreement with Chinese Huawei to design some of mobile phones cameras.
Leica is now a brand that comprises 4 European companies, independent since 1997: German Leica Microsystems, Leica Biosystems and Leica Camera AG (this one is in the photography business), Swiss Leica Geosystems.
