Adobe information and a brief history
Adobe was founded in 1982 in California by two ex-Xerox employees (John Warnock and Charles Geschke) that were developing a language for describing a page for printing (PostScript). The name of the company comes from the creek "Adobe" that ran close to Warnock's house.
In 1982 Steve Jobs tried to buy the company but the two founders refused.
It has become a multinational company focused on multimedia products, with well-known software like Photoshop (and Lightroom) for image editing and photography, Premiere for video, Acrobat for PDF files management, Flash for animation on the Web (this is going to be discontinued in favour, among others, of the more secure HTML5 standard).
